Anita's Bio

Anita Acevedo began the study of Rolfing in 1997 after experiencing profound changes in her body from receiving the ten series. “By the time I turned to Rolfing, I was an endurance athlete living in Alaska and competing in 100 mile adventure races. Our teams of 3 men and one woman would sea kayak for 30 miles, run for 40 miles in the mountains, and then mountain bike for 30 miles. My body was compressed, achy, tight and off balance. I had chronic pain in my low back, and my jaw was so tight I was experiencing migraines. Through Dr. Rolf’s life study of manipulating and organizing connective tissue, I became taller, more flexible, and graceful. Many of the unresolved childhood traumas I had been processing in my own psychotherapy began to be uncovered as my body unfolded and opened. I began practicing yoga and swimming in order to enhance the new spaciousness being created in my body. Rolfing saved my life by returning my body to its more natural fluid state."

Anita has combined her training and work as a psychotherapist with her passion for understanding the structure of the body. She has been fascinated by how the mind and body are intricately intertwined. To enhance her understanding of this mind/body connectedness, she has studied craniosacral therapy, Eriksonian hypnotherapy, the Diamond Heart Approach, osteopathic fluid and membrane manipulation techniques, osseous realignment and joint manipulation. She has experience working with professional athletes and, in the year 2001, she was invited to be the Rolfer at the World Championship of Adventure racing in Switzerland. Other athletes in her practice include a junior Olympic gymnast, a gold medalist in world class rowing, a national level swimmer and Alaska’s most celebrated female tri-athlete.

Anita also has experience working with infants, children, teenagers and adults. She has treated infants suffering from chronic earaches, colic and constipation. She has worked with children dealing with scoliosis, attention deficit problems, sensory integration, autism, learning disorders, and generalized anxiety. She has shared Rolfing with adults who are waking up to an understanding that their bodies have the capacity to move out of chronic strain patterns in order to return to their more fluid nature. She has Rolfed medical doctors suffering from chronic back strain, bulging discs and plantar fascitis. And lastly, Anita has Rolfed many older adults, even those in their 90’s, who have appreciated her sensitive awareness and capacity to work at the level which facilitates their increased range of motion and integration.

Anita’s wide range of treatment tools and her experience with a variety of ages gives her the expertise to work with each client at an appropriate depth and with the necessary insight.
